Promega UK Awarded Gold Medal by EcoVadis for Sustainability Excellence
Promega UK, Southampton, UK. (4 June 2024) a leading provider of innovative solutions and technical support to the life sciences industry, is proud to announce that it has been awarded a Gold Medal by EcoVadis, the world’s most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings. This prestigious award places Promega UK in the top 5% of companies assessed by EcoVadis, reflecting its commitment to sustainable business practices.
EcoVadis evaluates companies on a range of sustainability criteria, including environmental impact, labour practices, ethics, and sustainable procurement.
Rick Lowery, Tender and Contracts Manager, says ‘We are honoured to receive this Gold Medal from EcoVadis. This recognition demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and our efforts to lead by example in the life sciences industry. Our team has worked diligently to embed sustainable practices into every aspect of our business, and this award is a testament to their hard work and dedication.’
Promega UK’s Gold Medal is a testament to the company’s dedication to integrating sustainable practices across its operations, significantly reducing its environmental footprint, and promoting ethical business practices.
Promega has implemented numerous initiatives to enhance sustainability, including:
- Energy Efficiency: In the UK, the Promega headquarters has two reversible ground source heat pumps, resulting in a carbon neutral solution for cooling and heating the facility, solar photovoltaic (PV) trees in the car park and has recently been awarded ISO 14001 accreditation.
- Promega facilities are designed with sustainability in mind. For example, the Kornberg Centre (Promega Corporation HQ in Madison) is 65% more energy efficient than similar spaces due to innovative design elements such as a double skin façade, automated windows and ground source heat pumps.
- Waste Reduction: Promega aims to recycle all generated waste through a number of on-site activities, such as food composting, providing reusable hand towels, and draining rainwater. Where the company cannot recycle, reuse or reduce the waste onsite, it works with suppliers to establish zero to landfill general waste, with as much reused as possible.
- Sustainable procurement: Promega’s Supplier Code of Conduct ensures that suppliers adhere to high standards of sustainability and ethics, supporting local suppliers to reduce environmental effects from shipping.
- Employee Engagement: Promega UK's employee sustainable group plays a pivotal role in generating and implementing ideas such as hand towel and plastic wrapper recycling initiatives. The company also encourages the uptake of electric vehicles (EVs) among employees with a free charging policy. The grounds at Promega UK, featuring wildflowers and high-quality outdoor spaces, connect employees to the environment, fostering a sense of well-being and environmental stewardship.
Promega has just published its annual Corporate Responsibility Report, which is available to read here.
